Diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy when I was 4 1/2 years old, I have been in a motorized wheelchair since age 10. Now 29, I have been ventilator-dependent for five years. Despite my disease, I have strived to live as normally as possible. I was mainstreamed in public schools, graduated college, and currently work for an accessible IT consulting firm.

Diving a Dream
The Dream... Matt Johnston is a 28 year old from Minnesota that has been diligently pursuing his dream of one day going SCUBA diving. Daily, he defies the odds with a will to battle muscular dystrophy just to survive, hoping one day to experience a world that many take for granted.
As it happens, through persistence, his dream is becoming a reality. Matt has earned the attention of several respected individuals in the fields of diving technology, medicine, and ocean engineering, and is building a network of support and a team to facilitate the project. Just one of the complications to be addressed is that Matt needs a ventilator to breath. Therefore, the project will require the development or modification of a custom underwater life support system. There are several phases of this project, and the success of each relies largely on the ability of numerous resources to be pulled together.

If I get enough funds, a couple colleges may help out. I've also received packages from some elementary schools from around the country where young students have been sending me hand drawn pictures and...
