People with SMA
My Whole Expanse I Cannot See…
Michael Phillips is a writer from Tampa, FL. The written word, to him, is like fine art, like liquor, beautiful and intoxicating. He’ll tell you writing’s possibly the only thing he does well, which is probably true. Due to the magic of bad genetics he doesn’t walk, nor does he breathe without the assistance of machines. One could also argue that he’s simply astonishingly lazy. Michael also doesn’t speak due to a little breathing tube in his throat, thus Johnny Depp once played his voice on an Emmy award winning episode of Showtime’s This American Life.
Michael writes something akin to a live memoir at lithiumcreations.com, as well as short fiction. At night, he’s a disco goddess.

Kimi
My name is Kimi, well Kimberly, but everyone calls me Kimi, and Edele's pet name KimA [first copywrited by Shoen]. I was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, SMA II, which causes my muscules to get weaker and weaker as I age. Doctors didn't think I would live past 6, but what do they know? I started out as a normal baby but was slightly weak, then around age 8 I stopped walking, and at 20 I had to be trached and vented so I could breathe. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Immaculata College with a BA in Biology/Chemistry, and I am now at UPENN obtaining my Masters in Bioethics. When I received my college diploma I got a standing ovation. My birthday is on Aug. 15th. I live with my biological mother and step dad, oh and my sister. I have a yellow lab dog Mickey, and 2 cats...

The 19th Floor
I'm an attorney and I work in the area of disability policy (big surprise). I’m unapologetically liberal. I’m big into computers, books (all kinds, but a penchant for SF), and other things geek.
